Hi, Mortgage Fans!
Capture Quote of the Day: “Often times in order to capture your dreams, it will require you to chase your fears.” – Neil Patel

This Week in Economic History: It was on January 9, 1878, the government announced that due to a decrease in demand, the U.S. Gold Exchange would close its doors permanently. In the fall of 1879, they reopened again. And that, Mortgage Fans, is why you can never believe the hype that McDonalds’ is done serving their McRib forever.

Possible Game Show Answer: Cleopatra had a special lipstick made for her, consisting of a crushed mixture of ants and red carmine beetles.

Wuss’up This Week: Everyday reports about our economy are released, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. Well, that was a white lie because, for the first time in a long time, nothing is being released today. Tomorrow though, we have five inflation reports coming out, as well as Jobless Claims and the Federal Budget. On Friday, we’ve got the U of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Report (*this is basically a survey of how willing people are to spend money) as well as the BPFW Report (*Barry Prepping for Weekend) which will show me looking for my Lou Malnati’s gift card I got over the holidays. If these reports come in good for the economy, you’ll see rates tick up (except for the inflation reports – good numbers there will lead to lower rates), and vice versa if the numbers disappoint.

Interest Rate Update: Today, we find conforming 30yr fixed rates in the mid-6s (*this is for any loan at $726k or less) and jumbo (*over $726k) ranging all over the place from the lower-to-mid-to-upper 6. Low-7s. As usual, rates will vary based on the type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, and if you were born with rare genetics.

Don’t Forget to Remember: For any purchase or refinance loan that closes with me, I will waive the appraisal fee! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or dumpster divers that can use this gift!

Capture Quote of the Day 2: “My 5-year-old says, “Is anything okay?” instead of “is everything okay?” and somehow that really captures the zeitgeist right now.” – @mattsteno

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed Zach Galifianakis last week.

Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Beatles Cartoon T-shirt? Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question. (*note to Mortgage Fans: I try to write the trivia questions a few weeks ahead of time because they are the biggest pain to write. When I switched from CCM to A&N Mortgage, I lost track of a few of the questions I wrote. Long story longer – this question was originally meant to be sent on 12/14/22)
Good luck: “It was on this day in 2006 that my animated movie was released, I played a spider, and my costars were a bunch of animals. A natural part for me as I wanted to be a veterinarian before I got into acting. Early in my career, it was evident that my movies were better than my love life. I was engaged to be married in ’91 – that relationship lasted longer than 24 hours (*that’s one of my best clues I’ve ever written, Mortgage Fans. Okay, I’m done bragging, back to the trivia…) but not by much! Then I married a dude in ’95 who looked like he’d just been electrocuted – but I shouldn’t make fun of looks; I guess it’s easy when you’re pretty like me. (I’ve got a great smile, but so did Mona Lisa). Anyway, that marriage didn’t last too long either, but in 2002 I married a cameraman, and we are still together even though my true love is making movies. Remember my 2010 flick, whose three-word title is something we should all do every day? My favorite movie, you ask? The one that got me my Academy Award, and for that one, I thanked my acting coach -although truly I couldn’t have done it without my friend Erin.”
