I’d like to congratulate Downy liquid fabric conditioner for passing up toast as my new favorite smell. That’s about all the excitement I can report going on in the Schwartz quarantine household. So… maybe we should just get to the blog:

Invent Quote of the Day: “To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.” – Thomas Edison

Did’ja Know: The first use of the word ‘mortgage’ had nothing to do with homes. The word can first be found in the poem Confessio Amantis which was written in the 1300s. In that poem ‘mortgage’ was used to describe marriage, not a home loan. (*side note: If that still held true today my wife would’ve tried many times to refinance me. I don’t even know what that means but there’s a joke in there somewhere).

This Week in Economic History: It was on June 6th, 1934 that President Roosevelt signed the Securities Exchange Act. This act was designed to set rules and regulation on the notoriously corrupt New York Stock Exchange that caused the 1929 crash. I’m just glad to know that since then there have not been any wrongdoings or shenanigans! Wait…. What? There have been??! Oh yeah – forgot about these ten guys

It seems that despite all the negative news going on now the banks have drawn a line in the sand with rates. Usually when the economy is in a tailspin rates will continue to fall but they have been fairly stable the last few weeks. A 30-year fixed conforming loan (*that’s any loan under $510k) can be found in the low-3s with jumbo rates (over $510k) about a half a point higher. We do have excellent jumbo ARM rates now so be sure to ask me for a quote. And let’s not forget our friend the 15-year fixed which can be found anywhere from 2.50-2.875%. These rates are without paying points/exuberant fees. And don’t forget all rates can vary based on your credit score, equity in the home, type of home, and if the home is weird.

Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase or refinance loan that closes with me I will waive $595 in lender fees! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or people that want 30 Marilyn Monroe facts that can use this gift.

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who last week guessed Britney Spears. Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Kermit the Frog T-shirt? Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question. Good luck: “It’s my birthday today and you could use my first and last name as either first or last names. An anagram for my first name is Darn Nose but really I like my nose. I like my hair too – it’s white but I’m not old enough to have white hair. Do you remember my mother? She looked good in jeans and liked to dance to a Van Morrison song as well as a Laura Branigan song even though they weren’t singing to her.”
