Passion Quote of the Day: “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.” – Albert Einstein

Today in Economic History: It was on this day back in 1851 that Charles Henry Dow was born. Dow and his business partner Edward Jones started reporting summaries of the day’s events on Wall Street. These summaries later turned into the Wall Street Journal, and the stats they used to measure the market has since become what we know now as the Dow Jones average. Sad that this whole time I thought it was named after Tony Dow from Leave it to Beaver. Anyway, here’s a fun list of 12 things you didn’t know were named after people.

Wuss’up This Week: Every day reports about our economy are released into the wild and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. Today we’ve got the 3rd Quarter Productivity Report (*this will be down, my addiction to solitaire hampered my Q3 production), tomorrow Weekly Jobless Claims (expected: 215k), and tomorrow The U of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Report. If these reports come out good for the economy you can expect rates to tick up, and vice-versa if the numbers come in worse than expected.

Interest rates remain higher where they were 30 days ago but still beautiful, Mortgage Fans. A 30-year fixed rate can be found in the mid-to-upper 3s/low-4s with adjustable rate mortgages a sliver lower. As usual rates will vary based on type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, and if you’re curious as to why elections are held on Tuesdays.

Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase or refinance loans that close with me between now and December 31st I will give a $500 closing cost credit! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or smart dogs that can use this gift.

Passion Quote of the Day 2: “I wish I felt as much passion for something as my dogs feel towards the doorbell.” – @Ch8rming

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who last week guessed Kristen Stewart. Want to be entered into a drawing to win 100 Spongebob Squarepants Stickers? Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? trivia question. Good luck: “It’s my birthday today and to give you a hint of my name I will tell you that my first name starts with and my last name ends with the same vowel. Speaking of vowels my ex-wife has a 3-letter first name that starts and ends in vowels that are different from my vowel. We divorced in 2005 and thankfully our fights were just yelling because according to the movies I’ve seen her in she’s pretty good with martial arts. I’ve been nominated for four Academy Awards and a Tony. In one of those films (released 2001) my co-star won the Oscar for Best Actor playing a corrupt police officer. There was no corruption that same year when in real life a police officer arrested a co-star from my ’94 film that you wouldn’t think a rich person would be arrested for, but I’ve seen stranger things happen in my life.”
