Hey Mortgage Fans!

Rule Quote of the Day: “Rules and regulations, who needs them. Open up the door, we can change the world.” – Graham Nash

Today in Economic History: It was on this date in 1997 when CBS’ parent company finalized the purchase of The Nashville Network and Country Music Television for a reported $1.5 billion in stock, a pickup truck, a bottle of whiskey, and some smokes. (*I might’ve made up that last part.)

Possible Game Show Answer: Alexander Graham Bell, who invented the telephone in 1876, suggested answering calls with “ahoy.” (*In related news, it was reported that Nabisco was going to name their cookie ‘Chips Hello’. That, Mortgage Fans, is hopefully the worst joke I will make in 2023).

Wuss’up This Week: Everyday reports about our economy are released into the wild, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. Today we’ve got Wholesale Inventories, tomorrow Jobless Claims, and on Friday, the U of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Report (*this is a report that measures consumers’ willingness to spend). Should these reports come in good for the economy, you’ll see rates tick up, and vice-versa if the numbers disappoint.

Interest Rate Update: We’ve seen a nice slow drop in recent weeks, hoping that trend will continue. Today we find rates for a conforming 30yr fixed (*that’s for any loan at $726k or less) in the high-5s/low-6s and mid-to-upper 6s for a jumbo 30yr fixed (*over $726k). As usual, rates will vary based on the type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, and if you like beautiful photos in public places.

Don’t Forget to Remember: For any purchase or refinance loan that closes with me, I will waive $450 in fees. Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or people that like historical photos that can use this gift!

Rule Quote of the Day 2: “A good rule to remember for life is that when it comes to plastic surgery and sushi, never be attracted by a bargain.” – Graham Norton

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed Harry Styles last week.

Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Disco Bejeweled Sweatshirt? Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question.

Good luck: “It was on this date in 2015 when my show premiered – and amazing it even happened because it was a spin-off of another show that was really bad. Before you saw me on TV, I was a writer for a few shows, including SNL for four seasons. Enough about TV, I like the big screen too! Did anyone see Halloween Kills? No? Well, I was in that. How about in 2012 did you see Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie? No?! Well, enough of the movie hints because I’m assuming nobody saw my 2021 action thriller film. Last hint: Part of my last name is the last name of a Star Trek character.”
