Happy Quote of the Day: “If only we’d stop trying to be happy, we could have a pretty good time.” – Edith Wharton

Today in Economic History: It was on this day in 1827, the first issue of The Mechanic’s Gazette was published in Philadelphia. I know what you’re thinking, Mortgage Fans, it’s a pretty boring fact, right? But what if I told you this little nugget of information: This was the first time a labor-minded magazine is published in this country. The FIRST TIME!! Okay, I know, I know – still boring, but not every day in economic history can be exciting. I’ll make it up to you with by completely switching the subject; let’s all enjoy some fascinating roller coaster facts.

Wuss’up This Week: Every day reports about our economy are released into the wild, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. Today we’ve got the Durable Goods Orders, tomorrow Jobless Claims, and on Friday four reports on inflation consumer spending, Trade in Goods, and the U of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Report – quite a busy week! If these numbers come in good for the economy you can expect rates to go up, and vice versa if the numbers disappoint.

Sort of Interest Rate Update: So…. I had to write this blog a week in advance since my marketing team (a.k.a. Laura) went on vacation. This means for any interest rate quote please call/text (773.617.9738)/email me directly. This is a good time to let you know that there are over 700 banks & brokers that advertise rates in Illinois, and since they know they are competing against each other they have to advertise lower-than-market rates to get your attention. (*very similar to when I got hooked on a Weight Watchers commercial that made their pizza look like Lou Malnatti’s. When I got my food delivered from them the pizza looked like the exact same small slice they served in my junior high cafeteria.

Don’t forget to Remember: Any purchase or refinance loan that closes with me I will waive a BIG chunk of lender fees! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or people that like historical alternate angles of pictures.

Happy Quote of the Day 2: “Happy one-year anniversary to the Lean Cuisine in my freezer!” – @SCbchbum

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed Sean Penn last week! Want to be entered into a drawing to win a General Mills Cereal Jigsaw Puzzle (BTW – here’s a good look at how Cinnamon Toast Crunch gets made) ? Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question. Good luck: “It was on this date in 1991 my song was number one in other countries but couldn’t get past number 2 on the US charts (damn you, Bryan Adams). Fame runs in my family – my mom was a famous 1970s actress living in a high-rise, my dad a famous weatherman, my ex-wife is an American woman whose TV dad did some really bad things, and my daughter is an absolute angel (see her 2011 superhero movie) and was the best actress in an HBO series (and that’s no lie!). My 1991 hit was based on a line by baseball manager Yogi Berra, but football is my favorite sport – just ask Katy Perry (circa 2014).”
