Today in Economic History: It was on this day in 1848, the New York Herald wrote a story about the California Gold Rush. The original discovery was actually made in January but it wasn’t until this day when the mass population heard about the discovery. This article spurred many people to ‘rush’ to California in hopes of getting rich. This reminds me of gold nugget gum that was popular when I was a kid, so instead of giving you fun facts about gold, my nostalgia has forced me to give you fun facts about gum.
Wuss’up This Week: Every day reports about our economy are released into the wild, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. Interest Rate Update: Today we find a conforming 30yr fixed rate (*that’s for any loan at $647k or less) at around 5.50% on the low end to 6.375% on the high end, and jumbo (*over $647k) in the low-to-mid 5s. As usual rates will vary based on credit score, type of home, equity in the home, and if you live near an unusual building.
