Three Quote of the Day: “Three things cannot long be hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.” – Confucius (*wishing he would’ve added my emergency house key where I forgot where I hid it).

Today in Economic History: It was on this day in 1848, the New York Herald wrote a story about the California Gold Rush. The original discovery was actually made in January but it wasn’t until this day when the mass population heard about the discovery. This article spurred many people to ‘rush’ to California in hopes of getting rich. This reminds me of gold nugget gum that was popular when I was a kid, so instead of giving you fun facts about gold, my nostalgia has forced me to give you fun facts about gum.

Wuss’up This Week: Every day reports about our economy are released into the wild, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. Today we’ve got Retail Sales (*this will come in better than expected. I ordered one bottle of Log Cabin syrup from Instacart but accidentally hit the one twice so 11 bottles came in. In other news, I’m having a pancake party next weekend and you’re all invited!), tomorrow Jobless Claims and Existing Home Sales, and on Friday nothing major so feel free to call in sick and start your weekend early.

Interest Rate Update: Today we find a conforming 30yr fixed rate (*that’s for any loan at $647k or less) at around 5.50% on the low end to 6.375% on the high end, and jumbo (*over $647k) in the low-to-mid 5s. As usual rates will vary based on credit score, type of home, equity in the home, and if you live near an unusual building.

Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase or refinance loan that closes with me I will waive a BIG chunk of lender fees! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or anyone who was born in the greatest decade of all-time (the 70s).

Three Quote of the Day 2: “My ceiling fan has three settings: Very slow – slow – I’m about to detach from the ceiling and kill you in a freak ceiling fan accident.’ – @5hael

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who last week guessed Christina Applegate. Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Classy Potato Gift Bundle? Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question. Good luck: “Hey, gnarly dudes – it’s my birthday today, and with my last name I probably could’ve been a famous writer too. A long time ago I married my first wife who, contrary to rumor, was not named after a Beatle’s song. My second marriage to an actress lasted four years, not falling quicker than a house of cards as some like to joke. You know what wasn’t a joke? My Academy Award for Best Actor in 2008, I starred in a movie that, despite the title, had nothing to do with cows.”
