Now that Mr. Potato Head is just Potato Head and Mrs. Dash is just Dash, it made me think of other things that would really be impacted by this new movement – particularly two cheesy things from the 80s. First, Mr. Belvedere was a sitcom that was so bad it was actually goodhorrible, horrible theme song though. Second, one of the top-five worst and most overrated bands of the 80s was Mr. Mister – if they follow suit by getting rid of gender they would completely disappear which would be fine by me. Here’s their song Broken Wings which seemed like it was played every nine minutes on Kansas City’s KYYS (102.1) when I was at the University of Kansas. You know what else would be nice to see disappear? Rising interest rates; more about this in today’s blog below, Mortgage Fans…

Invention Quote of the Day: “To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.” – Thomas Edison

Today in Economic History: It was on this day back in 1836 that the U.S. Mint, in keeping up with the latest technology, began using a steam-powered press to make coins.  Here are 8 more fun Mint facts for you.

Wuss’up This Week: Every day reports about our economy are released into the wild, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. Today we’ve got Durable Goods Orders, tomorrow Jobless Claims, and on Friday Consumer Spending. If these reports come in stronger than expected you will see rates tick up, and vice-versa if the numbers disappoint.

Interest Rate Update: When my wife and I bought our first home we got a 30yr fixed at 7.75%. We were partying like it was 1999 because A. it was, and B. it was below 8.0%. Around the late 90s rates started to drop, and by last summer you could find a 30yr fixed in the mid-2s. I had a client call me last week and said she wanted to throw up because rates are now in the 3s. I don’t know the barf-a-rama I would’ve caused had I quoted her 7.75%, but today’s lesson, Mortgage Fans, is that the 3s ain’t so bad. Today a 30yr fixed for conforming and jumbo loans can be found in the low-3s, as usual, these rates will vary based on if it’s a purchase or refinance, type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, and if you like to see how someone can make inanimate objects real.

Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase or refinance loan that closes with me I will waive $575 in lender fees! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, co-clackers, or someone that puts their daughter in dangerous situations via photoshop that can use this gift.

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed Rob Lowe last week. Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Ghost of Disapproval T-shirt? Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question. Good luck: “It was on this date in 2002 I won my Best Actress Oscar for a movie whose title could also pass for an X-rated flick. I’m used to winning – I won Miss Teen USA in 1985 and Miss Ohio in ’86. I’ve been a Bond Girl, a villain, and a superhero (my name? think of weather) – I like being the hero the best because I’m always looking for justice (unless I’m picking husbands). I’ve never had much luck with the opposite sex; I’ve been married three times and had a bunch of relationships that didn’t work out. One guy who drove Carly Simon nuts says I slept with him, but I say that bull – any words out of his mouth are not worth listening to.”
