Life Quote of the Day: “Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” – Robert Breault

This Week in Economic History: It was on this date in 1974 that Richard Nixon agreed to pay back taxes of $432,000 after word leaked that he had been dodging the full income tax on his $200k salary. Speaking of taxes you’ve got 12 days left to file. Here’s some unusual tax deductions people have gotten away with.

Wuss’up This Week: Every day reports about our economy are released into the wild, and it’s these reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. This week it’s all about employment as today we’ve got the ADP Employment Report, tomorrow Weekly Jobless Claims, and Friday’s biggie the Employment Numbers for March (expected: + 125k jobs and an unemployment rate of 3.9%). If these numbers come in better than expected you’ll see interest rates tick up, and vice-versa if the numbers disappoint.

Interest rates went down last week and are giving back this week. However rates are still pretty darn low, Mortgage Fans. A jumbo 30-yr fixed (*that’s any loan over $484k) you’ll find in the low-4s, and conforming 30yr fixed (*any loan under $484k) in the mid-to-almost-upper 4s. Adjustable rate mortgages can be found anywhere from .25-.50% less than the 30yr fixed. As usual rates will vary based on type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, and if you’re good at mustache quizzes.

Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase or refinance loan closing with me between now and April 30th I will waive the appraisal fee (a $450 savings)! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass this blog onto any friends, family, coworkers, or anyone living in a tiny house.

Life Quote of the Day 2: “I intend to live forever. So far, so good.” – Steven Wright

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who last week guessed Quentin Tarantino. Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Doritos Otter T-shirt? (*I honestly don’t know what exactly it is about this T-shirt that is genius, but take my word for it  – whoever created it is a genius)?  Simply email me the answer to this week’s Who Am I? question. Good luck: “It’s my birthday today and I owned the 80s. I starred on a weekly TV comedy show, and made some hilarious movies. Remember the two buddy ‘cop’ movies I made with an actor with the initials NN. Or the three cop movies I made in the rich part of the country? All five of those movies were comedies despite the fact that the sequels – according to this blog writer – were not funny. Then I made a bunch of movies in the 90s that bombed. It wasn’t until I made the first (2001) of a four movie-franchise with Dreamworks that I was able to get back into the good graces of the comedy world despite the fact I made an ass out of myself.”
