Fireworks! Rate Rally? Jellyfish!

Fireworks Quote of the Day: “Laughter is the fireworks of the soul.” – Josh Billings (*yes, I know – this sounds like a bad fortune cookie, but it’s not easy to write this blog centered around a 4th of July theme.)

Today in History: It was on this date in 1937 when Ameila Earhart disappeared over the Pacific Ocean while attempting to become the first female pilot to circumnavigate the world. (*Amazing how completely opposite I am from Amelia – she attempted to fly around world while I still get lost half the time – even with GPS).

Possible Game Show Answer: The Turritopsis dohrnii, often called the ‘immortal jellyfish’ can revery its cells to an earlier stage of life to start over – potentially avoiding death indefinitely. (*also, contrary to popular belief, peeing on a sting will only help you if you have a pee fetish, it won’t relieve the pain. Also, here’s 10 jellyfish facts to start your morning.

Wuss’up This Week: The first week of the new month always brings employment reports that can sway interest rates in either direction. Chronologically they also get released in order of importance starting with today’s ADP Employment Report (expected: 120k jobs), and then tomorrow’s U.S. Employment Report for June (expected: 115k new jobs) and the U.S. Unemployment Rate (expected: 4.3%). If these numbers come in better than expected we’ll see rates tick up, and vice versa if the numbers disappoint.

Interest Rate Update: Last week gave us a teeny rally which we’ll take what we can get, Mortgage Fans. Maybe it continues this week? Today we find both conforming (*loans at $806k or less) and jumbo (*over $806k) in the high-6s.low-7s. Got some nice ARM rates in the upper-5s/low-6s as well. As usual rates will vary based on type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, and if you like pics of adopted pets

Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase that closes with me I will waive $450 in lender fees (*and a lot more on refinances)! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or peeps that like interesting facts that can use this gift.

Fireworks Quote of the Day 2: “My son asked why we light fireworks on the 4th of July. I told him it’s because nothing says freedom like setting money on fire.” - @Simoncholland

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed Aubrey Plaza last week! Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Tony the Tiger Bobblehead? Simply email me the answer to this week's Who Am I? question. Good luck: “It’s my birthday today and I have a lot of complaints. Regardless, let me tell you about me: I wrote for SNL briefly in the 80s and quit after one season, but then showed up the next season as if nothing happened. This led to an episode many years later on a sitcom I was writing and producing. I’m older and bald, so it was easy for me in 2015 to return to SNL as a guest impersonating a U.S. presidential candidate. I did make some appearances in movies – a couple Woody Allen movies (in ’87 and ’09), but really I’m known for two really successful sitcoms. The first one ran for 10 years and ended in the late 90s (I occasionally acted in it but you never saw my face). The second one you saw my face all the time because I was in every episode – it ran from 1999-2024 and can be retitled Edge Your Passion.”
