Skunks! Teeny Rate Rally! Play Dough!

Peace Quote of the Day: “When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.” – Jimi Hendrix

Possible Game Show Answer: A group of flamingos is called a “flamboyance.” (*Interestingly enough, group of female flamingos that sing is called a “flambeyoncé” I know it’s early in the blog but I’d like to apologize for the worst dad joke I’ve told this year - I’m very sorry, Mortgage Fans. Let’s just move on from this and pretend it didn’t happen.)

Today in History: It was on this date in 1969 when the Beatles – working on their album Abbey Road - recorded in a studio for the last time together. You might be asking yourself, “Are there any remakes of Beatles songs that are better than the Beatles’ version?” I can think of two: Elton John’s Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and Richie Havens’ Here Comes the Sun. And here comes an interesting list of Beatles’ remakes you may like.

Wuss’up This Week: This is a mild week for economic data that can shift interest rates (Minutes of the Federal Reserve’s July FOMC meeting being released today, Jobless Claims (expected: 224k) and Existing Home Sales (expected: 4 million) being released tomorrow, and then on Friday Fed Chair Jerome Powell will be speaking from Jackson Hole. I’m not a huge Lizzo fan but always liked her song Jerome – I wonder if she was singing about Powell.

Interest Rate Update: Rates dipped slightly last week. I would like to remind all the Mortgage Fans out there that a ‘dip’ is different than a ‘drop’. I gave that same lecture to my parents when my Spanish teacher called them to say my grades had dipped, and I had to remind them that going from a C-minus to a D was not really a drop. Didn’t work. Anyway, the point is, I want us all to remain cautiously optimistic but not too excited that rates will continue to head the right direction. Folks in these parts think the banks are banking on a quarter point drop by the Fed in September, and this thinking may spur on a continued rally. In the meantime, rates for a conforming 30yr fixed loan (*that’s for any loan at $806k or less) can be found anywhere from 6.50% - 6.99%, and jumbo 30yr fixed (*over $806k) can be found in the very high-6s. As usual rates will vary based on type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, and if you can guess original movie titles from what they are called in different countries.

Don’t forget To Remember: Any purchase loan that closes with me I will waive $450 in lender fees (*and much more on refinances)! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or skunks that can use this gift.

Peace Quote of the Day 2: “I’d kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.” – Stephen Wright

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed David Duchovny last week! Want to be entered into a drawing to win an Animal Barber Play Dough set? Simply email me the answer to this week's Who Am I? question. Good luck: “Today is my birthday and I am one of this blog’s author’s favorite actors. I have been nominated for six Academy Awards and two Primetime Emmy Awards. I had my first major role in a Spielberg film in the early 2000s but was unemployed for a year afterward. Got my first big break (sort of) in an independent movie that made $3-million at the box office – not much of a hit but enough to get me my first Academy Award nomination. Did you see my 2007 musical? It’s one-word title can also mean Charmed or Bewitched. I’m not a superhero but I did start in films that were set in the DC Extended Universe – I played the love interest for one of the superheroes (my character initials are LL, which is funny because my real name also has the first and last names starting with the same letter). In 2013 I starred in a movie that took place in the late 70s. My costar in that movie is a total psycho (see his movie in 2000 – same first word of that title in our 2013 title as well). Speaking of that costar, we teamed up for the 3rd time in 2018 – a political satire too. In 2010 I gave birth to my daughter which fits perfectly with an anagram for my name” Mama Days.”

The Adieu Mortgage Haiku:

Rates are just like skunks

Sometimes they can be so cute

And other times stink!
