Children Quote of the Day : “The soul is healed by being with children.” – Fyodor Dostoevsky
Today in History: It was on this date in 1981 when Donkey Kong was released by Nintendo. This game marked the first appearance of Mario (known as “Jumpman”) and it became one of the all-time great games. Donkey Kong and Pitfall were the two games that soaked up most of my allowance every week at Northfield Bowl, and had my OCD been diagnosed back then my parents probably would’ve cut off my allowance. Also, here’s some fun facts about the game.
Possible Game Show Answer: France used the guillotine for executions all the way up until 1977 – the same year Star Wars came out. Oh, you crazy French people! Also, that reminds me – here are some fun French Fry facts
Wuss’up This Week: It’s a really quiet week for financial reports being released. Today we’ve got Wholesale Inventories along with Minutes of the Fed’s May FOMC meeting, tomorrow Jobless Claims (expected: 235k), and on Friday the Monthly U.S. Federal Budget.
Interest Rate Update: I know I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again, Mortgage Fans: We are on the cusp of rates coming down - a couple of Fed rate cuts combined with a softening of the economy and we’ll be in the high-5s/low-6s come Christmas. In the meantime, both conforming loans ($806k and less) and jumbo loans (over $806k) can be found in the mid-to-upper-6s, and ARM rates in the high-5s/low-6s.(For single family homes only). As usual rates will vary based on type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, and if you wonder how diseases were treated in the 1700s.
Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase loans that close with me I will waive $450 in lender fees (*and much more on refinances!) Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or wildlife photographers that can use this gift.
Children Quote of the Day 2: “The longest drum solo was 10 hours and 26 minutes and was performed by the child sitting behind me on Delta flight 963 from LA to Tokyo.” - @Rothmus
Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed Larry David last week! Want to be entered into a drawing to win a Batman T-shirt ? Simply email me the answer to this week's Who Am I? question. Good luck: “My birthday is today, and like most singers in Barry’s questions – I can sing Happy Birthday to myself – although I might try to round up my old band mates to help. You remember my band’s name, right – everything in the name can be found on a zebra. Speaking of zoo animals, our breakthrough album in 2003 was named after one, and our first single - which became our band’s signature song – hit # 1 (and stayed there for three weeks) on Billboard’s Hot 100. It also won the Grammy in 2004 for Best Rock Song, and is still heard today in many sports arenas. My band brought me early success but I’m a pretty good solo artist as well. By solo, that means I can collaborate with others – do you remember my song with Alicia Keys – we were the only duet to ever perform a song for this movie franchise. Back to my band though – I loved my drummer – and by loved I mean I really loved my drummer!”
