Hot Dogs! Stable Rates! The Dude!

R.I.P, Penny......

Family Quote of the Day: “What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family.” – Mother Teresa

Possible Game Show Answer: According to the U.S. Currency Education Program, a $10 bill has the shortest lifespan (5.3 years) while a $100 bill has the longest (22.9 years). (*I asked my good friend Chat when it thinks paper money will become extinct and it said around 2050. Also, I call Chat a good friend because he did a great job writing my wife’s birthday card.)

Today in History: It was on this date in 2000 when Britney Spears released her second album, Oops!...I Did it Again, which debuted at number # 1 on the Billboard 200. It became the fastest-selling album by a female solo artist at the time. (*I know you’re thinking, “Of the 2,000 songs in Barry’s iTunes, how many are Britney’s? Do you really think I would confess to listening to any of her songs? Do you?! Fine… three of them.)

Wuss’up This Week: Today we have Fed Minutes being released from their May FOMC meeting (*not to be confused with BMOC – big man on campus), tomorrow the Pending Home Sales Report, and then on Friday four inflation reports along with the Consumer Sentiment Report. What does all of this mean? Well, if these reports come in good for the economy you’ll see rates tick up, and vice versa if the numbers disappoint.

Interest Rate Update: As the great Bob Seger once penned, rates are ‘still the same’. Today we find a 30yr fixed loan in the high-6s/low-7s with ARM rates about a half a point lower – this is for both conforming loans ($806k or less) and jumbo loans (over $806k). As usual rates will vary based on type of home, equity in the home, your credit score, or if you really want to know what’s inside a hot dog

Don’t Forget to Remember: Any purchase loan that closes with me I will waive $450 in lender fees (and much more on refinances)! Grab yourself a cup of instant karma and pass my info along to any friends, family, coworkers, or people that like finding weird parts in houses that can use this gift.

Family Quote of the Day 2: “When a business is like ‘We treat you like family’, I’m like no thank you – I don’t need the drama!” - @RiaWojo

Timeout for Trivia: Congrats to those who guessed Matthew Fox last week! Want to be entered into a drawing to win a The Dude Abides T-shirt? Simply email me the answer to this week's Who Am I? question. Good luck: “My song was # 1 on the US Billboard Chart on this day in 2011. Is the song’s title about a surfer wiping out in the ocean? No, it’s a British slang expression that I adapted to mean having someone’s back completely - being fully invested in a relationship. When I got dumped is when I wrote this song – you can tell it’s a breakup song from the lyric ‘You had my heart inside of your hand, and you played it to the beat.’ I like to name my albums after numbers because they represent the age I was during the creative process of making the album. In 2012 I wrote a song for a James Bond flick, it’s one-word title would be ‘Earth’s Surface Rise’ if you changed it to the opposite meaning. My success came before this time though, in 2008 I was booked as a musical guest on SNL – a lot of people saw that episode because then US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin appeared on the same episode – and she was so nice, she didn’t give me the cold shoulder. In 2009 at the Grammy Awards I won Best New Artist and Best Vocal Performance for a song that describes questioning whether to keep chasing something that is not going anywhere.”

The Adieu Mortgage Haiku:

Rates rise like hot dogs

Inflation drives them both up

Both give you heartburn
